Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that the National Archives' website and collection contain the names, images and voices of people who have died.

Some records include terms and views that are not appropriate today. They reflect the period in which they were created and are not the views of the National Archives.

2nd March, 1967.

The Secretary [underlined]

Mr. and Mrs. G [full name redacted throughout document] and Family

Your Reference – 66/12989

[Dividing line.]

With reference to telex Kersley from Castle dated 15th February, 1967, attached for your information is copy of M.304 report together with copy of interviewing officer’s report in relation to this family.

2. Although all the children were not seen by the Interviewing officer, it is apparent from discussions with Immigration Inspector that all these children are predominantly non-European in appearance and that apart from Mr. G none of the family speak any English.

3. Mrs. G could be a definite integration problem because of her lack of education, low intellect and inability to understand English. The comments of Mrs P. d'E [full name redacted throughout document] (Mr. Gs' sister) that she did not anticipate this family would be permitted entry because of their colour is significant. Mrs. d'E was the person who assisted our officers at the Airport in completing passenger cards by acting as an interpreter.

4. It is considered that if this family had been submitted to a Selection Interview before entry they would not have been authorized to enter.

5. In view of the numbers of persons now entering from Mauritius (approximately 200 arrived per "Australis" at Freemantle on 27th February, 1967) perhaps consideration could be given to an Officer calling at Mauritius at specified periods to interview prospective migrants and this obviate entry of persons within this category.
