Research grants and scholarships

Supporting archival research

One of our key roles is to promote archival research in Australia. We encourage scholars to study our collection and publish their findings.

Postgraduate scholarships

The National Archives and the Australian Historical Association provide postgraduate scholarships to help cover the cost of digitising records in our collection.

Community Heritage Grants

The Community Heritage Grants program helps community organisations preserve nationally significant collections of materials.

Collaborative research

Through the Australian Research Council grants scheme, we collaborate with universities and other cultural institutions.

For example, we previously partnered with the Australian War Memorial and the departments of Veterans' Affairs and Defence on the Australian National University project Serving Our Country: a history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the defence of Australia.
