Records related to the Home Insulation Program

Lifting of Home Insulation Scheme Records Retention Notice

On 6 August 2025, the National Archives withdrew the records retention notice issued in 2013 relating to records that might assist the Royal Commission into the Home Insulation Program. Agencies identified in the notice may now recommence sentencing activities for these records.

Noting the conclusion of the Royal Commission in 2014 and the conclusion of any actions resulting from recommendations of the Royal Commission in 2019, the National Archives in conjunction with affected agencies has determined there is no further need to retain such records for the purposes of the Royal Commission.

Effective immediately, these records may be authorised for destruction under general and agency-specific records authorities issued by the National Archives or using a normal administrative practice.

Agencies that provided records to the Royal Commission into the Home Insulation Program must contact the National Archives prior to any destruction taking place to determine the disposal status of those records.

Further information is contained in the Records Retention Notice (pdf, 209 kb).
