Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that the National Archives' website and collection contain the names, images and voices of people who have died.

Some records include terms and views that are not appropriate today. They reflect the period in which they were created and are not the views of the National Archives.

MR. AND MRS. V. A. W[blanked out]

MR. AND MRS. E.J.R[blanked out] AND TWO CHILDREN

Mr. W[blanked out] (aged 66)is a retired Major in the Salvation Army. His features and complexion are sufficiently European for him to be approved and his background is, of course, entirely satisfactory. Major W[blanked out] is dependent completely on his son-in-law, Mr. E. J. R[blanked out]. He has two sisters in Australia; Mrs. C. F[blanked out] and Mrs. F. F[blanked out] and a sister-in-law, Mrs. E. W[blanked out], who is also in Australia. A further sister, Mrs. E. A[blanked out], lives in Malaya.

Mrs. W[blanked out] is pure Sinhalese. At the interview she wore a Salvation Army jacket and a sari. She is apparently Mr. W[blanked out]'s second wife and Mrs. R[blanked out] is her step-daughter. She is an only child.

Mr. E. J. R[blanked out] is 43. He is assistant Station Master at Maradana Station. He has had eighteen years' experience on the railway. From 1941-1946 he was a private in the Middle-East forces. He has been given the option to retire under the language policy proviso and must make a decision before 30th September. In appearance Mr. R[blanked out] is not approvable. His photograph is a good likeness. He has a mid to light brown complexion and Asian features. At his interview he was well-dressed and quietly spoken. He would not be greatly out of place in Australia. His relatives are as follows: -

Parents: Dead

Brother: Mr. A. D. R[blanked out]
Ceylon
Has not applied

Sisters: Mrs. C. A[blanked out]
Ceylon
Has not applied

Mrs. B. D[blanked out]
Ceylon
Has not applied

These people will all apply if Mr. R[blanked out] is successful.

Mrs. R[blanked out] is quite approvable. Her photograph is a good likeness. She is practically 100% European. She is an only child.

Elizabeth A. R[blanked out], aged sixteen, is training as a stenographer. She is light in complexion and quite approvable. Her small brother, Michael aged two, is fractionally darker but well above borderline.

[Initial in blue ink]
