Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that the National Archives' website and collection contain the names, images and voices of people who have died.

Some records include terms and views that are not appropriate today. They reflect the period in which they were created and are not the views of the National Archives.

Eddy W [name redacted] REF 69/46868

Dear Sir,

I refer to your letter dated 23rd September 1971 Ref No [number] 69/46868, o my brother Eddy W [name redacted], who is now in Mauritius, and shall be grateful if you will kindly reconsider his application for entry to Australia.

We are eight brothers and sisters in the family, five are now living permanently in Australia, two others have been granted letters of authority and will soon be coming to live here. Eddy is the only one whose application has been turned down. You can imagine his deception [sic] and I am therefore appealing to you looking to the human side of the matter. Eddy is a good accounts clerk, who has been employed by Messes Ireland Fraser and Co. Ltd for the past eight years, and is besides a very good tenor who has been studying in France following a scholarship from the French Government. There is now doubt that he would have stayed in France if five of his brothers and sisters were not living here. Here is no opportunity for him to become a professional singer in Mauritius, I am convince that Eddy will be selected if he auditions for the Australian Opera Company, just as I have been successfully auditioned and will be singing as leading tenor for this company with reason.
