Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that the National Archives' website and collection contain the names, images and voices of people who have died.

Some records include terms and views that are not appropriate today. They reflect the period in which they were created and are not the views of the National Archives.

NON-EUROPEAN MIGRATION

WE RECEIVE ENQUIRIES FROM NON-EUROPEANS AT THE RATE OF APPROXIMATELY 100 – 120 PER YEAR.

FIGURE MARCH 1966 – END OF 1968 IS APPROXIMATELY 275 – 330.

THE MAJORITY (80 PERCENT) OF THESE ARE FORWARDED TO US BY TH CHIEF MIGRATION OFFICER LONDON AND ARE IN THE FORM OF COUPONS CUT FROM BRITISH MAGAZINES.

ALSO ABOUT 5 PERCENT ARE REFERRED BACK TO US FROM AUSTRALIA WHERE A DIRECT ENQUIRY HAS BEEN RECEIVED.

THE REMAINDER ARE LETTERS SENT DIRECTLY TO US AND AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL ENQUIRY.

2. IN THE NORMAL COURSE OF EVENTS WE DO NOT RECEIVE NON-ELIGIBLE APPLICATIONS AS WE DO NOT HAND FORMS TO ANYBODY WHO IS NOT PRIMA FACIE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY.

ALL APPLICATIONS WE DO RECEIVE ARE FORWARDED TO CANBERRA.

3. WE HAVE MANAGED TO DISCOURAGE MOST SUCH ENQUIRERS WITHOUT CAUSING BAD PUBLICITY OR ILL FEELING.

THERE IS GENERALLY A LACK OF INTEREST HERE IN MIGRATION TO AUSTRALIA.
