Some records include terms and views that are not appropriate today. They reflect the period in which they were created and are not the views of the National Archives.

Secretary [tear over word]
Dept. Of Interior
Canberra

Dear Sir,

The period of four weeks work which your Dept kindly gave me to enable me to leave Canberra with my family ended last Friday. With savings from the wages I bought an old second hand truck which I have reconditioned myself and which is ready for the road. I have not been able to save sufficient to take out a three months registration of [illegible, covered with slip of paper] truth which would cost [£103 crossed out with blank ink] 15/9 and [illegible, covered with slip of paper] be much obliged of the favour of [illegible, covered with slip of paper] registration would be granted for three [illegible, covered with slip of paper] this.

Yours Faithfully,
Victor Fitzgibbon

The Secretary: [underlined]

It is submitted for favourable consideration that this concession be granted as a debit to the Alleviation of Distress. The amount involved is small, [ink splotch with 15/9 handwritten beside it in black ink], and it is evident that Mr. Fitzgibbon intends to keep faith with his undertaking to leave Canberra with his family.

It is obvious that as he has no resources, his continued residence in Canberra will be a further debit to the Alleviation of Distress to a considerably greater extent than the amount involved.
