About Information Awareness Week

Information Awareness Week (IAW) is a collaborative event between organisations in the records, archives, library, knowledge, information, and data management communities.

During IAW, information professionals get together to promote modern and improved practices of managing information in Australia and by Australians.

This year's theme: Information Management professionals power the AI ecosystem

This year's theme is anchored by a half-day collaborative seminar delivered by Australia’s leading information management industry bodies to celebrate Information Awareness Week.

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption accelerates, Information Awareness Week 2026 highlights the essential role Information Management practitioners play in enabling trusted, ethical, and effective AI. Through shared insights and practical perspectives, it explores how information quality, governance, records, and accountability underpin successful AI outcomes.

This event celebrates collaboration across the Information Management community and reinforces the profession’s critical contribution to Australia’s AI-enabled future.

When AI moves faster than standards, who's keeping up?

Join us for our annual, high-stakes industry debate where leading professional bodies, ALIA, ASA, DAMA, HIMAA, NAA, EDMA and RIMPA Global, come together to confront one of the most urgent questions facing the information profession today.

AI is being deployed at breakneck speed across Australian organisations, yet clarity around governance, accountability and standards remains frustratingly unclear. Are professional bodies shaping the rules, reacting to them, or reading about them after the fact? And when guidance conflicts across disciplines, whose standards actually prevail?
