United Kingdom

People originating from the United Kingdom form the largest migrant community in Australia.

Throughout the 20th century, the Australian government encouraged migration from the United Kingdom with programs such as 'Bring out a Briton.'

George Henry Daniels

George Henry Daniels was deported back to the United Kingdom for criminal convictions in Australia after migrating in 1949.

Barbara Porritt from Yorkshire, in the United Kingdom, was chosen to represent the 'Millionth Migrant' to Australia.

In 1947, young men from the UK migrated to Australia to help build houses and buildings during the post-war boom.
