Danniella McGowen

Danni McGowen was formally appointed Assistant Director-General, Access and Public Engagement in August 2025. In this leadership role, she oversees key functions including public access to archival collections, educational programming, national exhibitions, digital engagement, communications, marketing, and strategic partnerships. As a senior leader in the public sector, she brings a dynamic and inclusive approach to leadership. Danni is known for her ability to foster meaningful connections between institutions and communities and championing access to Australia's archival heritage.

Prior to her appointment, Danni served as Director of Communications, Marketing, Partnerships and Events at National Archives, where she led the organisation's external-facing strategic communications and promotional initiatives. Prior to National Archives, Danni worked across several areas of the Department of Health, including the Therapeutic Goods Administration and Office of Drug Control before supporting the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She also contributed to major digital and operational transformation undertaken by the Bureau of Meteorology.

Danni is eager to contribute to the government's mission to build social cohesion and trust in democracy by making sure the many stories within archival records are accessible.
