A submarine base on the Derwent River and a property infested with thylacines.

Join us as we discuss where to find Commonwealth records about land and buildings in Tasmania. What can be found in the obvious, and not so obvious, corners of the national archival collection?

Commonwealth records are a rich source of information for property owners looking for their property’s history, or for discovering Australia’s built heritage.

Learn how to find records about Commonwealth buildings such as post offices, lighthouses and military barracks. See how tax records can be an unexpected way to discover the history of a property, from detailed descriptions of soil, dams, fences and vegetation, to sketches of building types and locations.

We’ll also share some of the quirky discoveries our archivists have uncovered in the Tasmanian collection.

Presented as part of Libraries Tasmania’s National Family History Month events program.
