Rear Admiral Crace, commander of the Australian Squadron, was sent to Fremantle by the Chief of Naval Staff to take overall responsibility for the interrogation of the Kormoran's crew. This letter to Crace from an interrogation officer, whose signature is indistinct (possibly that of Commander Ramage, the senior naval intelligence officer in Western Australia), reflects a view of the events not apparent in other official accounts.
