In the early twentieth century, children in China could be sponsored by family in Australia to enable them to come to Australia to study. Their Chinese student passports, such as this one for Sweeney Wing Chee, provide details of their backgrounds, including their home village in China. The files also usually contain school reports and information about the family who sponsored their study.
