
This photograph, of returned World War I servicemen gathered on a Cairns street, is taken from a series of photographs originally held by the Postmaster-General's Department in Queensland. The series, J2879, contains 665 envelopes of photographic negatives which depict an eclectic range of subjects including postal and telegraph staff, post offices, early pioneers, mail coaches and motor vehicles.
More than 1100 of these images have been digitised and can be browsed in our image bank, PhotoSearch. Simply search for 'J2879' as 'series number'.
