AFDA revision program

The Administrative Functions Disposal Authority (AFDA) is a general disposal authority released in February 2000. It sets out how long administrative records of government agencies should be kept.

AFDA needs to be updated to take into account changes in legislation and other records management requirements of the Australian Government. We have identified the following functions as being the highest priority for change:

  • Compensation
  • Industrial Relations
  • Legal Services
  • OH&S
  • Personnel
  • Property Management

Two new (draft) functions for AFDA are now available for comment:

Please forward comments to the National Archives via the Agency Service Centre online form. Please include 'AFDA review comments' in the message. Comments close 31 December 2008.

The first part of this review was to ask stakeholders to provide us with comments about the priority functions. Revisions to the priority functions are almost complete and we will be undertaking final consultation with lead agencies shortly. We expect to issue the revised AFDA early in 2009.
