Effective information and records management depends on having both the technical and human resources to do the job. The National Archives supports capability development in the Australian Government by offering a range of training programs and resources. The Archives also engages with information and records professionals and stakeholders across the Australian Government, industry and the education sector.

Training courses
The National Archives offers the following face-to-face training courses. These courses are customised to the Australian Government environment and relate very specifically to the legislative framework and requirements within the Commonwealth.
Developing a records authority
Developing a records authority is a highly interactive course that explores the steps involved in developing a records authority for your agency.
Making sense of recordkeeping metadata
Making sense of recordkeeping metadata provides an introduction to metadata and the Australian Government Recordkeeping Metadata Standard (AGRkMS).
What Australian Government staff need to know – eLearning and other products
Keep the Knowledge is a training and information package to help everyone working in or for the Australian Government understand their information and records management responsibilities. It includes an elearning module, a PowerPoint slideshow with presenter's guide, a fold-out reference card and posters promoting good information and records management practices.
Introduction to digital records is a National Archives eLearning module that looks at what digital records are and their key characteristics. It will help information and records managers, ICT specialists and business managers implement and promote effective digital information and records management in Australian Government agencies.
The National Archives also produces a range of other products to raise awareness of digital transition, digital continuity and accountable information and records disposal.

GAIN Australia forums (Government Agencies Information Network)
Government Agencies Information Network or GAIN Australia is a national network supporting agency information and records professionals in the Australian Government. It organises face-to-face and online forums on information and records management issues which are aimed at chief information officers (CIOs), senior managers with information and records management responsibilities and information and records managers from Australian Government agencies.
