This series consists of an undated index book to workshop sketches, and a folder containing lists of casting drawings and patterns for the Daring class destroyers. Information recorded in the index in columns consists of sketch number, sheet size, drawing number, file number, and description/title.

The folder contains lists of drawings of turbine components and deck fitting castings, as well as lists of patterns in drawing number order.

The drawings in this series cover many aspects of design, general arrangement, and fittings for the ships.

This register is a listing of the complete set of mechanical drawings for HMAS Voyager and Vampire and is the main control record for the series of mechanical drawings held in M2869. In addition, there are sections covering sundry sketches, boilers, piping systems, pipe arrangement drawings, guidance drawings and sketch sheets, etc.

These drawings are of turbines and turbine related machinery, and include such items as nozzle bars, angle plates, tapers, adaptor plates, clamps, tenon squares and radials, width and taper gauges, form tools, index plates, broach blades, etc. They were used in conjunction with the main set of mechanical drawings (M2869) and the series of tooling operation sheets (M2797), as well as the set of operations sequence sheets (M3029). Used together, these three sets of drawings show in detail the machinery parts and how they were constructed and assembled to form the turbine machinery for these ships.

Information in this series relates to the ship’s air conditioning, refrigeration, armament broadcast and communication, radar, gyro compass circuits, telephones, torpedo control system, fire control, power and lighting etc.

These ‘as fitted’ drawings were produced to show the layout of the piping systems of the ships on their completion. Subjects covered include telemotor piping systems, drainage and ballasting systems, steering gear, fresh water service, etc.

This series functions as an unofficial register. The book records the drawing number, title, dates sent to the shipbuilder, loft shipwright, plater, welding inspector, and the hull overseer. Most of the drawings were used as well in the building of the HMAS Voyager and were given the same drawing numbers. The book also contains a loose sheet that records the first nineteen ‘as fitted’ drawings for HMAS Vampire (M2843).

These drawings also contain references to a third destroyer, HMAS Vendetta, built at Williamstown Naval Dockyard in Victoria. These drawings show the completed layout including turbine, boiler, exhaust and propulsion machinery.

These drawings cover profiles, pumps, drainage, exterior fittings and shell, plate and line expansion.

This series consists of two folders relating to electrical trials of equipment for HMAS Vampire. The first is ‘Results of Balancing Electrical Circuits and Fittings’ and the second is ‘HP Switchboard. Breakers & Switches, Millivolt drop tests’.
