These are the original operation sheets/sketches for tooling for turbine machinery for these vessels. They are the operation sheets for the related series of tooling drawings (M2692) and were used in conjunction with them by the dockyard in the construction and installation of the turbines for those ships. They also relate to the series of mechanical drawings for HMAS Torrens (M2781) and Stalwart (M2938 and M2939).

This index is divided into two sections: one for the Y100 frigates HMAS Parramatta and Stuart, the other for the Daring class destroyers HMAS Voyager and Vampire.

These drawings contain information concerning the ships’ general arrangement, body plan, shaft brackets, bilge keel, deck chain pipes, twin rudders, eddy plates, sidelights, bollard and fairleads, etc.

The drawings in this series were used in conjunction with the main set of mechanical drawings for the vessels (M2780 and M2781) and the series of tooling operation sheets (M2797), as well as the set of operation sequence sheets (M3030). Used together, these three sets of drawings show in detail the machinery parts and how they were constructed and assembled to form the turbine machinery for these ships.

This series of forging sketches shows various machinery items such as tubes, cock handles, spindle handles, etc. The quantities required and how they should be placed into existing ship machinery are also included.

These operation sequence sheets were used in conjunction with the mechanical working drawings (M2780 and M2869), the tooling drawings (M2692 and M3030) and the tooling operation sketches (M2797) to form a complete set of drawings and instructions for the turbine machinery of these ships.

The operation sequence sheets function as a kind of index to the tooling drawings and the tooling operation sheets. Where the job number 223 is given on the sheets, the drawings listed refer to the turbines of the destroyer escort HMAS Torrens, also built at Cockatoo Island Dockyard (M2781).

The listing in this series is of the numbers and titles of operation sequence sheets for the RAN vessels HMAS Parramatta, Stuart, Voyager and Vampire, held in M3029. The listing is a copy of the original, with the numbers of the operation sequence sheets given and their titles, in sequence. Some of the sheets also list the mechanical drawing number to which the operation sheets refer.

This series of blueprint copies of original sundry sketch drawings deals mainly with mechanical telegraphs, gearboxes and universal joints used in the construction of the frigates. Many have handwritten annotations.

Sundry sketches were drawn up as an addendum to the working drawings for a ship if any alterations or deviations from the originals were necessary.
