The Agency Service Centre provides a single point of contact for all National Archives records advice. If you work for an Australian Government agency and you need help with your information and records management, please contact us by using our inquiry form.

About the Agency Service Centre

The Agency Service Centre (ASC) can help you with advice on records and information management related issues, such as:

  • The Archives Act 1983
  • digital transition and information management
  • disposal freezes and Records Retention Notices issued by the Archives
  • machinery-of-government changes
  • normal administrative practice
  • records authorities
  • sentencing
  • transferring records to the Archives

Responding to your enquiry

We aim to respond to your enquiry within 5 business days.

If your enquiry is urgent, please let us know and we’ll try to respond within your timeframe. This may not always be possible and will depend on the type of enquiry.

We may need more time for more complex issues, or where input is required from other areas of the Archives. We will discuss this with you and keep you informed as your enquiry progresses.

Advice for non-Government staff

If you believe you hold Australian Government (Commonwealth) information or records and are not sure what to do with it, please contact us. We can provide advice on what to do and where to take this information or record.

In the case of an emergency which affects the preservation of records, please contact the Agency Service Centre

If an emergency occurs out of office hours, and in extreme cases where immediate action concerning physical records is required, please call or text 0402 890 870, and provide your out of office hours contact details.
