At 1.10am on 10 December 1936, while Prime Minister Joseph Lyons spoke by wireless telephone to his counterpart in London, Lennie (far right) and two colleagues took King Edward VIII’s abdication message. As a result of this conversation, news of the abdication was announced simultaneously in Australia and the House of Commons.
