Any person can access the National Archives’ collection. Commonwealth records are available to the public 30 years after their creation. For example, records created in 1967 are available from 1 January 1998, and so on.
Archival records are not on open shelves for browsing. The material available for browsing is generally limited to a few photographic collections, microfilm copies of frequently used records (eg genealogical, shipping and railway records) and paper lists of individual record items.
