Joseph Aloysius Lyons

Joseph Lyons was Australia's tenth prime minister (1932–39). A Tasmanian, he held the seat of Wilmot for the United Australia Party from 20 November 1929 to 7 April 1939. Lyons died in office on 7 April 1939.

Joseph Lyons held a number of positions in Tasmanian and federal politics before becoming Prime Minister, including
- Tasmanian Treasurer and Minister for Railways and Education (1914–16)
- Premier of Tasmania (1923–28)
- federal Minister for Works and Railways (1929–31)
- federal Postmaster-General (1929–31)
Lyons during his term as Prime Minister
Joseph Aloysius Lyons served as Prime Minister from 6 January 1932 until his death on 7 April 1939. During this period he held a number of other portfolios:

- Defence (1937)
Lyons was Vice-President of the Federal Executive Council from 1935–37 and he led the United Australia Party from 1931–39.

Enid Lyons
After her husband's death in 1939, Enid Lyons had a significant political career in her own right. She was the federal Member for Darwin (Tasmania) from 1943 to 1951, Vice-President of the Federal Executive Council (1949–51) and a member of the Australian Broadcasting Commission (1951–62).
