A research grant for archivists

The National Archives of Australia has an important national role: to encourage excellence in the archival profession.

We offer Ian Maclean Awards to individuals interested in conducting research that will benefit the archival and historical profession in Australia and promote the important contribution that archives make to society. Ian Maclean Awards commemorate the life and work of Ian Maclean.

More than one award may be granted annually and the award is open to overseas applicants. The principal benefit of an award for the recipient is the opportunity to complete an innovative research project that may require travel or time away from their regular employment. Successful applicants are expected to actively promote the results of their research.

The current award-holder is Martin Masek, a senior lecturer in the School of Computer and Security Science, Edith Cowan University in Western Australia. Former award-holders include Mitchell Whitelaw, Gavan McCarthy, Bruce Smith, Nikki Henningham, Eileen Chanin and Steven Miller.
