'I was delighted when approached to become a member of the National Archives of Australia Advisory Council. I was a member of the Senate Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee which in 1978 produced its report on the Freedom of Information Bill and the Archives Act which shaped our current Act, so have had an active interest in the Archives and its work for some time. Above all I believe in the vital role of the Archives in helping Australians to better understand their past and plan their futures.'
