New Kings Avenue access to National Archives

Media release: Tuesday, 24 July 2012

The National Archives of Australia has welcomed the construction of a new driveway off Kings Avenue, which allows easier access to its heritage building in the Parliamentary Zone.

The new driveway, constructed by the National Capital Authority, reinstates the 1927 entry to East Block.

'This new entrance gives the building greater visibility and also makes it easier for drivers to find and enter our visitors' short-term car park,' said Director-General David Fricker.

'In particular, it allows better access to our galleries and other areas of the building for disabled drivers and for groups and school students arriving by tourist coach.

'I would like to thank visitors for their patience over the past few months when the roadworks have made it more difficult to gain access to our visitor parking.'

The National Archives also thanked the National Capital Authority for ensuring the project caused as little disruption as possible to the building and the Archives' activities during the construction process.
