Copyright submission for 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', 1938

Cover of children's book, 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', subtitled 'An authorised book of the Walt Disney movie'. Hand-drawn, colour illustration shows Snow White dancing with a dwarf, 1938

Walt Disney submitted several applications to the Copyright Office to ensure protection of his works in Australia. Until the enactment of the Copyright Act 1968, anyone who wanted copyright protection had to submit an application that detailed their personal particulars and an exhibit of the work. Although the intent was not to create an archive of social history, the files became a unique record of creativity in fields like film, literature and music.
