Silver bowl presented to Prime Minister Stanley Melbourne Bruce, 1934

Colour photograph of a silver bowl inscribed with the words 'HMAS Sydney, launched at Wallsend-on-Tyne, 22 September 1934'. The two drinking handles are in the shape of unicorns with fish tails

This sterling silver Grecian bowl was presented to Stanley Melbourne Bruce at the launch of the HMAS Sydney in 1934. Bruce was Prime Minister of Australia from 1923 to 1929. While the National Archives has personal records relating to many prime ministers, the Bruce collection is unusually rich in presentation items, decorations, insignia and other objects.
