For the third year running the National Archives of Australia will host its annual Grandkids Day – five hours of holiday fun for the littlies.
The entertainment begins at the Archives on Queen Victoria Terrace at 10 am on Wednesday 18 January and continues through until 3 o’clock.
Well-known children’s entertainer Mike Jackson again heads the line-up of events and will perform shows at 11 am and 1 pm. There will also be donkey and pony rides, kite-flying demonstrations, face painting, and a visit from the Heritage Fire Brigade. And this year, for the first time, Aussie Rules-mad kids will be able to have a ball with some local ACTAFL players who will be on hand for a couple of clinics.
Storytelling sessions will be conducted in the Menzies Room, near the Archives’ current exhibition, Summers Past: Golden Days in the Sun 1950–1970 … sure to stir a memory and perhaps even a story from those of us old enough to remember the ‘good old days’.
Grandkids Day is one of the biggest events on the Archives calendar and provides youngsters with an entertaining and educational experience. Apart from the pony rides, which cost $2, it’s free!
