Just when you thought you’d run out of holiday ideas for the children – along comes Grandkids Day at the National Archives!
The fun begins at the Archives on Queen Victoria Terrace (just behind Old Parliament House) at 10 am on Wednesday 19 January and continues through until 3 o’clock.
Activities include camel rides, storytelling, face painting, water experiments, hook and stick fishing, and the Shrek jumping castle. Popular children’s entertainer, Mike Jackson, will present two concerts. Other drawcards include the heritage fire brigade and a patting paddock of farm animals.
To highlight the Archives’ next exhibition Just Add Water — Schemes and Dreams for a Sunburnt Country (which opens in March), the day will also include several water-based activities such as a giant water pipe and rain dance workshop.
Grandkids Day is one of the biggest events on the Archives calendar and always provides the younger brigade with an entertaining and educational day. And apart from the camel rides, which cost $3, it’s all free!
