Delve into your Family History

The annual Family History Fair at the National Archives of Australia on Sunday 4 April (10am to 4pm) is sure to encourage many people to start searching their own family tree.

Experts from the National Archives, the Australian War Memorial, National Library, Screensound and the ANU Archives Program will talk about the variety of family and local history records in their collections. The keynote speaker Annette Shun Wah will also talk about her experiences researching her family history.

This key event of the ACT Heritage Festival is free and will enable visitors to:

  • Hear Annette Shun Wah tell how she researched her family history
  • Chat to people from genealogical and historic societies
  • Get started on your own family history research by talking to experts from the National Archives, the Australian War Memorial, the National Library and the ANU Archives Program
  • Bring your keepsakes to the Conservation Clinic for specialist advice
  • Get some tips on doing your family tree at the Basic Family History Research workshops
  • Catch the final day of the exhibition – It’s a Dog’s Life!
  • See the display of vintage fire engines
  • Take a free horse and carriage ride
  • Enjoy the sausage sizzle and gourmet coffee

Groups with stalls at the Fair include the Heraldry and Genealogy Society, the Military Historical Society of Australia, the Canberra and District Historical Society and the Directorate of Honours and Awards.

The National Archives is located in the beautifully refurbished old Queen Victoria Terrace Post Office in Parkes, ACT.
